The honour of the Lord Jesus Christ and the credibility of PEC, not only require care to be taken to make sure that the welfare of every child and young person associated with the youth works the church engages in is protected and safeguarded; but they also require PEC to take seriously the guarding of the reputation and integrity of everyone who gives of their time and resources in order to work with the children and young people who attend each meeting. This responsibility, along with the prevailing climate in society, has necessitated PEC putting in place a Physical Restraint Policy. The design of this policy is to exclude unnecessary physical contact between the leaders of every youth work and those they are working with.
PEC’s Physical Restraint Policy covers the following areas:
i) The definition.
ii) The aims.
iii) When to restrain.
iv) How to act when it appears that restriant may be necessary.
v) Acceptable and unacceptable methods of restraint.
vi) The procedures to be followed when restraint has had to be used.
No-one is permitted to work with children or young people under the auspices of PEC until they have read PEC’s Physical Restraint Policy and declared their willingness to comply with, and uphold, all its requirements in writing.
